Privacy Policy

This policy explains how Layers (“we”, “us”) handles personal information when you use the Layers weather app and this website. For questions or privacy requests, contact support@layersweather.com.

What we collect and why

• Account information. When you sign in with Google, we receive an account identifier and the profile information Google makes available for sign-in, such as your name and email address. We use this to authenticate you and associate saved preferences with your account. We do not receive your Google password or request access to your Gmail messages, contacts, calendar or Drive files.
• Saved cities and preferences. Layers stores selected cities and their coordinates, comfort settings, units, appearance choices and other app preferences. Optional gender information is used to tailor clothing wording; you can choose “Prefer not to say”. Preferences are stored on your device and may sync through your account when saved while signed in.
• Location. If you choose to find your location and grant permission, Layers obtains a device location to find your city and request local weather. You can search for a city instead. The current app does not continuously track your background location. Saved places may include coordinates.
• Plans. Text you enter in Plans is interpreted on your device to select a forecast window and clothing advice. The current version does not send your plan text to a cloud language model. Weather requests for the selected location still go to weather services.
• Alerts. When you configure weather alerts while signed in, selected cities, event choices and alert settings may be stored with the alert service. Delivery depends on device permission and feature availability. Test notifications are identified as examples.
• Support and technical information. If you contact support, we receive your message and contact details. Our hosting and service providers may process IP addresses, request details and operational logs to deliver and secure the service.

Services that help Layers work

We share information needed to provide the features you use with these services:

• Google handles Google sign-in under its own privacy policy.
• Supabase provides authentication, account storage and backend services. Device login sessions are stored in the iOS Keychain.
• Open-Meteo receives city search queries or coordinates to provide geocoding, forecasts and air quality.
• Apple provides device location services, geocoding and maps where used.
• RainViewer supplies radar data for requested areas and times.
• Resend delivers transactional account emails. Email providers process messages sent to support.
• OpenAI Sites and its hosting infrastructure host this informational website.

These services may process information outside your country. Their applicable privacy policies and infrastructure arrangements also govern their handling of information. We may disclose information when required by law or necessary to protect users, security or legal rights.

Google user information

We use Google sign-in information only to provide and maintain your Layers account and the features described here. We do not sell that information, use it for advertising, or use it to train general-purpose AI models. Our use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.

Storage and retention

Local preferences remain on your device until removed or reset. Signing out clears the app’s active session but does not by itself delete your account or all local preferences. Account information and saved settings are retained to provide your account until they are removed or you request deletion, subject to necessary security, legal and backup retention. Service providers may retain operational records under their own retention policies. We do not promise that signing out or uninstalling the app immediately removes all provider or backup records.

Your choices and requests

You can edit saved cities and comfort preferences, decline optional gender information, revoke location or notification permission in iOS Settings, and disconnect Google access in your Google account. To request access, correction or deletion of your Layers account information, email support@layersweather.com. We may need to verify that you own the account before acting. The rights available to you depend on applicable law.

Website privacy and security

We have not added advertising trackers or a dedicated analytics service to this website. The hosting provider may use technical logs or necessary security technologies. We use HTTPS and platform security controls, but no system can guarantee absolute security.

Children

Layers is not directed to children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information without appropriate authorization, contact us so we can review and address it.

Changes

We may update this policy when the app or its data practices change. The date above identifies the latest version. Where required, we will provide additional notice or obtain consent before a material change takes effect.
